Yartung Festival Trek

We Great Panorama Treks family excited to introduce the Yartung Festival Trek, an ancient celebration in the Upper Mustang and Lower Mustang regions that dates back to the 12th century. The residents of Upper and Lower Mustang have been joyfully observing the Yartung Mela festivities for centuries. This year, as in the past, they eagerly await visitors from all over to experience the breathtaking beauty of the hidden valley and participate in this time-honored tradition. Yartung Festival Mela is a significant event in Lower Mustang, celebrated by the Thakali people to mark the end of the harvest season. The festival lasts for three days, filled with horse racing, dancing, singing, and delicious food and drinks enjoyed by the local community.

The lively Yartung Festival Trek is primarily held in Lo-manthang and Muktinath, attended by the people of Lower Mustang in Nepal. This multi-day celebration is a highlight of the year”. The Yartung festival marks the end of summer and the beginning of the Mela celebration or fair. During Yartung, Festival people offer prayers to Buddha and seek blessings from village leaders and elders for a prosperous future. It is a time to be grateful for the abundance brought by summer, with crops harvested and grains stored in homes.

When was starts Yartung Festival:

Yartung Mela is typically observed from August 14th to 16th, coinciding with the full moon of August. Festivities include horse races, traditional dances by the Thakali and Tibetan communities, and gatherings filled with drinking and merriment to celebrate the end of summer with joy and prosperity. The festival has historical significance in Upper Mustang, once known as the Kingdom of Lo, an isolated region with strong Tibetan cultural influences. Yartung was reintroduced about 15 years ago in Lo Manthang, the only town in Upper Mustang where it is celebrated, making it a significant event for the local community.

Itinerary


Day 1 Arrival Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

Arrival to Kathmandu and pre meeting with all group and short brief about Mustang Tiji festival trek.

Day 2  Preparation Trekking gear and permit half City tour Kathmandu valley.

Sightseeing in Kathmandu Valley. Bouddha in the morning and lunch. In the afternoon and in the evening Pashupati Aarti. Welcome dinner.

Day 3 Transfer to Pokhara by air / bus.

Kathmandu-Pokhara by air and rest at Pokhara. Or go by jeep to Tatopani naturel hot spring (Hotel Barahi or Naturel Spring Tatopani)

Day 4 Drive to Kagbeni

All the way drive to Kagbeni overnight stay at hotel main gate way of Mustang region

Day 5 Trekking to Chaile (3,100m).

Trek to Chaile mustang region and culture tour start.

Day 6 Trek to Sangmochin via Soye La Pass (3,800m).

Trek to Sangmuchen mustang region. We trek through the very hestrocal  place Chungsi cave from Samar village.

Day 7 Trek to Tsarang (3,499m).

Trek to Tarang mustang region all the way Dakmar village.

Day 8 Trek to Lomanthang
Day 9 Lomanthang

Yartung festival celibrate there in Lomanthang and overnight there in Lomanthang.

Day 10 Trek back to Ghami

Trek back to Ghami and also participate in Ghami Yartung festivals.

Day 11 Trek back to Chhuksang

Trek back to Ghami and also participate in Chhuksang Yartung festivals.

Day 12 Trek to Muktinath

Trek to Muktinath and also participate in Muktinath Yartung festivals.

Day 13 Drive back to Pokhara

Drive back to Pokhara by jeep after the yartung festival.

Day 14 Pokhara stay

Stay at Pokhara for relax.

Day 15 Flight or drive back to Kathmandu.

Flight or drive back to Kathmandu.
