This trek is the classical trekking route to the heart of Everest region which was used by Mr. Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary in their Mt. Everest expedition in 1953. It is one of the most popular trekking trails in the world which offers the combination of natural and cultural beauty. This trek provides the opportunity to the trekkers to explore the landscape of the whole Khumbu/ Everest region, green forest with rare wild animals and birds, lush valleys with the spectacular view of the world’s tallest mountains.
In this trekking you can enjoy the fantastic vistas of the mountains like Mt. Everest 8,848 m the tallest mountain of the world, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Amadablam, Mt. Pumori, Mt. Thamserku etc. As well as the culture and tradition of the ethnic Sherpa community. The Mani Rimdu dance performed in the Monastery as well as the Dumji festival of the Sherpa people will be the lifetime memory to the trekkers.
The traditional route of Everest base camp trek begins from Jiri after a 7/8 hours drive from Kathmandu. While traveling to Jiri you enjoy the natural beauty on the way. You can see the green terraced farm, people rafting in the Bhote Koshi River, Himalayan view, different waterfalls, swift flowing rivers, traditional villages on the way to Jiri. You can also take the adventurous experience of bungee jumping in the Bhote Koshi River on the way. Once you start walking from Jiri you are overwhelmed with Nature’s beauty as well as the untouched culture of the ethnic inhabitants.
En route you pass through the terraced green farm, beautiful rhododendron, and pine forest, numerous ethnic settlements, valleys with the amazing view of the mountains and surrounding landscapes. The hiking to the Kala Pattar (Black stone) , the perfect viewpoint of Everest, and Tengboche monastery are other remarkable features of this trekking route. The best time to go for the Everest base camp trek is from mid-March to May and September to Mid December. Through this Jiri, people also do the very famous trekking trail Pikey peak circuit trek Nepal.
Jiri also knows another unique Name Nepal’s Switzerland and part of it looks like that and many local domestic tourists visit there early and mainly during festival time they go there with family and overnight from Kathmandu and Pokhara. From there the local people can go to many places such as Kalinchok, Dolakha Bhimsen temple, Sherpa village and Jirel village in Jiri.
